Sleep Of The Dreamless
As a six-year old, RJ Goldstein witnesses and perhaps causes an accident that leaves his twin brother in a coma. Nineteen years after the accident and four years after his brother's death, RJ has become a hipster who works as a counselor at a homeless shelter for teenagers and converts computer monitors into fish tanks for fun. Despite his playful demeanor, RJ refuses to speak to his parents, he expresses his antipathy to his Jewish upbringing by skewering Schindler's List, and he is afraid to move in with his Israeli girlfriend. What's worse, one of his teenage clients has just been killed in a car crash. To find refuge, he flies from San Francisco to post-wall Berlin to visit his best friend and mentor, Dizzy McClendon. Something in Berlin, however, is terribly wrong. When RJ finds out the extent of his best friend's depravity, he will have to make a choice: cut ties with Dizzy and leave him in Berlin to die, or stay in Berlin, where the struggle to keep Dizzy alive will force RJ to confront both his Jewish roots and the death of his twin.
